Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority was founded on January 15th, 1908 on Howard University in Washington, DC. Our mission is to help mankind through community service. We are an international organization with undergraduate and graduate chapters throughout the world.
Alpha Kappa Alpha has served mankind through social action initiatives for all its' 102 years in the areas of education, health, econmic security,environmental stewardship and commitment to sisterhood.Rgo Gamma Omega Chapter is the sponsoring chapter to Rho Upsilon. Kean and Seton Hall Universities serves the communities in the Oranges and Maplewood and Union.
Rho Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. did not develop over night. Its development required diligence, planning, persistence, cooperation, and determination. Letters and phone calls and presentations expressing the growing interest on the campuses of Kean and Seton Hall.
After two and half years of hard work, January 20, 1998 marked the formation of the Pearletters Interest Group. Rho Gamma Omega the graduate chapter along with the Pearletters helped these young women to join the national organization. Having met all the requirements the Pearletters Interest Group went on to charter the Rho Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on May 2, 1998. Fifteen intelligent young women of diverse backgrounds and interests found a common desire to work together and touch each other with sisterly love while serving the community through the prestigious name of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Rho Upsilon Chapter is still an active and viable entity on both campuses.
